A look at how the Tech Team at CD Projekt applied the Red 2.0 Manifesto as part of a company-wide transformation after the release of Cyberpunk 2077.

The single greatest advantage an organization can have is great teams, filled with great team members. It’s almost a no-brainer to say it. But it's not always clear what that means in practice, or how to get there. By the time we realize what it is we want we already have teams, management, and structures that are in a different shape.

When a company is still small, tight and effective teams with a clear culture can develop naturally. Everyone knows each other, and collaboration and alignment seem to fall naturally into place. As the company achieves success and grows in size, maintaining that alignment and effectiveness becomes increasingly challenging. People in different teams no longer automatically have the same connection as they did when everyone could fit into a single room and collaborating becomes difficult.

How can you develop and maintain effective teams and a clear culture, even as your company grows? And how can you make that change once you’ve already grown? This talk will look at a case study of the tech team in CD Projekt Red going through the process of a cultural and structural transformation during and after the production of Cyberpunk 2077.

You will leave this talk with knowledge on:

  • How the CD Projekt Red tech team, and especially its leadership, changed from 2017 to 2023
  • The five core values of the CD Projekt tech team and how they are applied
  • How the release of Cyberpunk 2077 affected the transformation of both the tech team and the entire company
